Digital Media BlogHollywood: Are you worried yet?Posted: 4/18/2005 If not, you should be. With the advent of low-cost, high-quality digital video cameras and desktop video editing, the power of production has been in the hands of the masses for a couple of years. But now, thanks to a non-profit, open-source, open standards project built on top of BitTorrent technology, the power of distribution will be widely available too. For viewers, the system, tentatively named "DTV", uses RSS feeds to notify your computer when new videos that you've subscribed to are available. The video downloads to your computer in the background, and if you want to support the efforts of the creators, you can donate directly to them via PayPal. The combination of RSS and BitTorrent means anyone can create and publish videos without having to have a huge internet connection from which to serve video. Link (participatoryculture.org)
