Russian music downloads not illegal

Posted: 3/8/2005

The Register reports that Russian prosecutors have decided that the mp3 download site AllOfMp3.com, which offers music downloads for about $.02 per megabyte (around $1.50 for a full CD), has not violated Russia's copyright laws and will not be charged.

After an investigation in February, brought on by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, the Russian police recommended that that the site be charged with violating copyright laws. According to their web site, AllOfMP3.com says it has the right to sell music based on their license with the Russian Multimedia and Internet Society.
