Music Software
What software do I need for digital music?
If you run Microsoft Windows, you probably already have software, in the form of Windows Media Player, that can do just about everything you need. It will rip (copy) the music to an mp3 or Windows Media file, fill in the tag information (which holds things like the artist's name, album name, year, and track number), and keep a library of all of your music files. Links to Media Player, as well as other music software are below.
- Apple iTunes
Not only is iTunes a music store, it's also a jukebox and organizer.
- Musicmatch Jukebox
Recently purchased by Yahoo, Musicmatch Jukebox is a powerful free music player and organizer. It can record your existing CDs onto your computer, automatically tag the tracks with artist and song info, burn CDs of your favorite music, and print CD and jewel case labels. Also offered is a pay subscription-based "Musicmatch On Demand" service, offering over 800,000 songs from over 60,000 albums.
- WinAmp
One of the original mp3 players, WinAmp is still popular among the "no-frills just play the damn music" crowd.
- Windows Media Player
With just about every feature anyone needs for managing and playing digital audio, we can't not recommend Windows Media Player 10.
